Customer Reviews Perfect for small and mid size rooms I was very skeptical when I purchased this product from the internet without actually listening to the quality. I have never done that before. I have always bought high end audio equipment. I have a mid size master bedroom and no extra space for speakers. I came across this item searching for a TV stand for a new 40" LCD. It looked cool on the internet and seemed like a great concept. After receiving it, hooking it up (simple), and listening to it. I am impressed with its look, sound, and price. It's still not quite the quality of a high end surround system, but its perfect for the room as well as sounds and looks great. It is also easy to operate.
I like it. Like others, I bought this stand because I didn't want to have wires running all over my family room. Unlike others, I was in a position of buying a new stand along with the TV, PS3, and DVD player. All Sony's. Accordingly all of the components look great together. The stand is beautiful - but what I really like is the Sony 'control for HDMI' that switches the channels on the TV and stand automatically when I play a DVD, and switches them back when I turn the DVD player off. Unfortuneately, the PS3 doesn't have this feature, so I still have switch the devices manually when playing a game or watching a Blu-Ray disc. But no big deal. As far as the sound is concerned, it is much better than the TV speakers and it does have some surround effect. However, I'm sure that it is not nearly as good as a true surround system (duh!). But for me, it worked out great.
Great product.......... terrible delivery service. Purchased a Sony RHT-G800 Home Theater Stand, from Amazon, to accommadate the newly purchased Sony 46" TV. Very happy with the product, but the delivery of the merchandise was anything but professional. After setting up a delivery date and time, with the time frame being 11-3pm. After several phone calls to the delivery company, all initiated by us, as to the where abouts of our merchandise, and several excuses, the delivery truck arrived at our house at 8:20 pm that evening. Not only was it over 5 hours late, but the driver was alone, and I had to help him get the stand into our house, before it fell. It was extremely heavy, and really needed 2 men to get it into the house. Oh, I forgot to mention that the delivery company was only 2towns away from our house!!!!!!!!! Maybe, a 5to 10 minute drive from us.
I would suggest that Amazon try to locate a better delivery service for their merchandise in this area. It really took the excitement away from recieving the long awaited goods.
RHT-GR8......................00 CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY ANYONE WOULD PUT A BAD NAME OUT ON THIS SYSTEM I, HAVE PLASMA T.V'S, BOSE SYSTEMS ETC. , BUT THIS IS BY FAR ONE OF THE BEST PRODUCT I'VE PURCHASE AND A LONG LONG TIME............
Sony's Home Theater Stand is a great choice......... if you do not have a large room or if you do not want to mess with rear speaker wires. The sound quality is good enough for my ears. I also have a Bose Accoustimass System down stairs in the game room. Yes there is a difference if watching a dvd movie, but for most normal TV viewing the Sony system works good. And the stand is very attractive.

Customer Reviews Outstanding Home Theater Sony RHT-S10 Home Theater Built-In Sound Rack System
I purchased this sound system to augment my new Samsung 67 inch LCD/DLP television which has just average internal speakers. I wanted a simple straight forward listening device which would bring me Surround Sound and Dolby Digital. This unit fit my requirements perfectly in that it has HDMI inputs (2) and an HDMI output, as well as an optical input. I connected my Comcast STB (Explorer 8300HD) via the optical, directly to this unit thereby providing me the Digital 5.1/ Dolby Sound. This in turn eliminates sound going to the TV, which is preferable for me. I then connected the DVD player to the Sony sound system via HDMI and finally connected the Sony Theater to the TV via HDMI. The sound is just great, as the sub woofer is built in to the sound bar and is not overly loud, which is desirable for my listening taste.
I did a lot of research before buying the Sony Theater and although this is a new unit and there are no reviews yet, I thought it must be better than the others I read about, which all seemed to have an issue or two. My Comcast remote will turn this unit on, as well as the TV, and SA 8300, which is a must for me. I can control the sound via the aux button on the remote.
One interesting issue, this unit is made for wall mounting and comes with a center woofer speaker on the bottom. I wanted to place it on a shelf within my TV cabinet so I had to lift the sound bar up off the glass shelf using felt pads, it worked just fine but you need almost 8 inches of open shelf space to accomplish this task. I called Sony and asked them to consider making a cradle or add feet for this purpose.
My first listening experience was a Red Sox Game and the Dolby came through big time, every change of a graphic was accompanied by a swoosh, pretty entertaining stuff. I recommend this unit to anyone who wants a quality listening experience, good looks and the latest technological interfaces.

Customer Reviews The little HTIB that could... Installed this yesterday w/a new Sony Bravia 46" LCD TV.
The TV and the receiver interface pretty well...out of the box they can "talk" to each other if connected via HDMI and optical out from the TV to the receiver, and the changing inputs on the TV will make appropriate changes to the audio output selected. There is an option to tell the Sony TV remote which AV/Receiver you are using, so that it can do double duty. So now I can turn both the TV and the reciever on/off with one button, choose a video input and the audio is switched automatically, etc. (The Sony feature is called something like "HDMI Sync.")
The sound of the unit is much better than I expected. It's not going to make an audiophile give up their high-end systems, and can't match the setup in my main room, but it is going to be more than adequate for most listeners and for folks looking for a compact system. It has enough power to fill a big room nicely with a big sound, and the subwoofer is powerful enough to rattle your walls and windows. :)
It comes with a nice feature...a microphone you attach to the receiver and then set in the middle of the room. The receiver then automatically tunes the speaker levels to the appropriate level. I haven't done that yet (have to get the rear surrounds hung), but if it works OK it will be a nice feature.
The iPod dock included only supports audio...a big disappointment. Why they stopped at audio is hard to understand...iPod video is at least as important now as audio playback. Oh well...
The included wireless speaker seems like a solution in search of a problem we don't have. Allows listening to the audio playing on the receiver in different rooms (or outside).
We're really not sure if we'll use it or not...we have radios pretty much anywhere we want to listen to the radio, and don't see any need to hear the TV from another room where I can't see the TV.
This is an all-plastic speaker set...you won't find any fabric or wood here, but they still look nice and don't feel cheap.
Overall I'd say this is a good system with a nice sound. Paired w/a Sony Bravia TV it makes a nice, easy to use combination.
Not Much Contribution from Rear Speakers Sound is GREAT through Audio-Tech headphones, but the rear surround speakers produce little sound, almost imperceptible in most situations, and there is NO CONTROL to bring up or balance the sound to my ear from the different speakers like my old Panasonic had. I should have spent the more and upgraded to the next model and just had the surround wireless, or saved money and stayed with the wired rear speakers from the lessor model. It costs more to make this system wireless if just using the one set of speakers in one room. Programs with my new Panasonic plasma just fine. Goood features: 5-disk tray, HDMI ready, automatically lowers the sound level to low on shutdown so you are not blasted out of the room when next turning it on.

Customer Reviews Amazing System!!! This is an amazing home theater system. Forget all the negative reviews here. This home theater does it's job right. Greast sound. Great construction...and an unbeliveable sub-woofer. You will think you are sitting in a multiplex. AND THE PRICE...WOW!!! With discount coupons, I got this system at a major chain for only 5. It compares to a more expensive system costing twice as much. Go out and buy it now before they are all gone. You will love it!
Worth the price It's worth the price and adds good surround sound to your system! I bought a SONY BRAVIA LCD and a SONY BluRay so I needed a surround system at a bargain. I am pleased with it, but it doesn't have buttons for radio stations and it's difficult to change stations with the remote. You can use the ONE remote for the SONY TV, BluRay and AV, but the buttons are tiny and you have to learn them.
Overall, I got what I expected, a good surround/receiver at a GREAT price and much cheaper than buying the receiver and speakers!
Nice system for the mone So far the only unfortunate finding has been the Sony wires which are low grade and hard wired o each speaker. It would be nice to have the option of upgrading with my own higher qualithy speaker wires but even if spliced, the inserts into the back of the receiver would not be able to accept a thicker grade wire. It is also limited on the inputs
not xm ready Please be warned. The amazon description is wrong- it is NOT xm ready. It isn't a dealbreaker for me but obviously wrong information should be corrected
Nice entry level Component Home Theater System with some flaws. Sony HTDDWG700 Component Home Theater System - Black
This is a quick and dirty review (Pictures included). The 700 is a nice affordable entry level HTS,
*Pro's
*iPhone compatible ( it will say that the accessory is not made to work with the iPhone) but it does work you can even change the songs pause and play with the included remote control. It will also charge the iPhone.
*Playstation 3 compatible via TOS (Digital Audio Cable {Optical})
*Customizable input name.
*Clear sound
*Powerful 900watts
*Looks sharp
*Headphone Surround
*DIGITAL MEDIA PORT
*XM Connect & Play Ready
*Con's
*Claims to have Digital Cinema Auto Calibration (Mic Included) it does NOT have one.
*Can hear a popping sound from time to time
*Universal remote control not so universal, will not work with any TV other then Sony.
*Universal remote control needs a very clear line of sight. Poor IR transmitter
*Only has one HDMI port
*Only has one TOS input
For the money it is well worth the price. I would buy it again if I need an entry level HT. This is not for the top of the line seekers. But for those of us that want 5.1 for a smaller living room or basement. I Gave it a 4 out of 5 stars for the price & content of the system. If anyone has a question you can p.m. me.

Customer Reviews Nice system This all in one package Sony DAV-HDX275 system is bang for the buck. I got it for 5 plug tax and free shipping was a deal to steal. The 5-disc upconvertion DVD player is a plus and with crisp digital 5.1 sound along with a good solid bass. I would recommended it and Amazon shipping was awesome got it 4 days.
Love our Sony We looked all over, and I am telling you that Amazon really does have the best prices around. The Sony came faster than expected but they always seem to get there things fast out to there Customer's. I have never had to return anything, I Have bought alot of things from here and me and hubby are so happy with every Purchase! I really just wanted to say Thank You to Amazon! Fast and Easy. Keep up the Great Products that you offer:)
A great system *for the price* I consider myself to be a bit above the average, casual listener. I am on a temporary assignment in another country and I needed a system that was good enough to perform as my main system and also, cheap enough that after 18 months, can be disposed of with no feelings of financial irresponsibility. This price range was perfect for me. After listening to all-in-one systems in this price range from JVC, Panasonic, Samsung, Sharp and quite a few others, I went with the Sony.
This little system does not disappoint at all. It is nowhere as full featured and the sound is nowhere as 'rich' as a full separates system, but it gives sound that is quite good and ultimately, very listenable if you aren't a constant, critical listener. If you aren't much of an audiophile or just want something to use as a second system in another room outside of your main listening room, you would be well advised to add this system to your short list. It has the all important home theater A/V features and formats so it pretty much plays anything you throw at it (within reason).
As mentioned by a previous reviewer, the major drawback for me is the system does not memorise the sound settings per input so if you like your TV in ProLogic II but your radio listening to be in regular 2-channel stereo, you will have to manually change decoding modes when you switch back and forth between sources. It can get annoying.
An additional drawback is that the user interface and remote control is quite confusing - which for me, is strange for a Sony product. Having said that though, unless you are a constant tweaker, after the initial setup and customization, you really don't have to deal with anything other than the standard settings which are easy enough to maneuver through.
The system allows for 1 additional input so plan out your use for this system very carefully. This is not meant to be the heart of a multi-source system! Of interest is the inclusion of an iPod dock. I can't give any feedback on this as I think I must be one of the remaining 3 persons in the world who do NOT have an iPod. It is a neat addition however and it adds to the overall utility of the system.
Finally, I do not see any way whatsoever to program the remote to control components by other manufacturers. Thankfully, I connected this system to a Sony TV; however, there doesn't seem to be any way to program my cable box, so I have to use the remote control for that in addition to the Sony remote. You may want to either buy an additional, programmable remote control that suits your purposes.
Still, in spite of these small issues, I am largely happy with my purchase. Were it not for the lack of programmability for the remote control and the inability to memorise sound formats per input, I would have given 5 stars... for the price! :)
Sony Bravia good investment Nice unit. The IPOD plug in is convenient. Good value for the money. Good sound also.
W Maynard The sound is OK. The logic of the functions is the problem. It has a 5 disk holder but, whats the use. If your playing a cd and you want to put another cd in bay 2 the music stops. If your listening to FM and you open the cd drawer the music stops. Sony gets this stuff wrong all the time. There's no aux input in the back so my turntable can not be used. The ipod dock works pretty good I'm pleased by how it works.

Customer Reviews What Do You Want For 400.00? A Rubber Biscuit? I'm thinking of getting this system because I am downsizing and my older system is way to big for my new condo. Advances in technology with audio fidelity in IC amps have really made home audio a lot more affordable and still decent sounding. I saw this reviewed on the G4 Network's show called Attack Of The Show and was wow, that would work out nice with the wireless speakers and match it to a 50'sh inch flat screen and I'm good to go! For under 1,500 with the TV in High Def, amazing! I sold "high" end audio and video for 10+ years from the late 80's to early 2000's, when a plasma would go for 10,000-20,000 alone about 7-8 years ago. I laughed out loud when Attack Of The Show said it was an OK system but kind of pricey! I said WHAT? you have got to be joking! Then I see what has to be the longest review I've ever seen on Amazon and its on a 400.00 HTIB system! LOL, people, it's 400.00! If you want a powered sub then get a powered sub! This is for people like me who have neighboors close by and want a lot of bang for the buck. Hell, if I'm not crazy about it after I get it I'll put it in the bedroom! 400.00, what a deal! The Japanese really killed the audio market though didn't they? That and people who would devote months of their time on a 400.00 system but not blink an eye on a 7.00 cup of coffee at starbucks everyday! I don't work in sales anymore because I saw the writing on the wall, people who would write 30,000 word reviews would kill an hour of my non compensated time to pick my brain, click onto best buy.com or amazon.com and buy it! No thanks! LOL. Oh and save the 30,000 nit picking word reviews for something that costs more then a days pay, ok?
Not for quality sound, but for special effects. Having done a lot of research on this genre ( DVD surround sound system) what I find disapointing is the lack of quality accoustics coming from the speakers. Yes, they look cool around my room, especially the tall back speakers placed on stands. It is not what I consider high fidelity, in fact, the sound reproduction is quite poor. I'm a performing musician, so I demand a bit more from anything in the nature of sound reproduction. Forget sweeping strings, or clear, focussed lows, say goodbuy to crispy, textured highs. Don't buy these for sound, buy them for sound effects! Watch a DVD and be amazed when something sounds from behind you or far to the left, or almost hits you between the eyes. It's a folly artists dream...enjoy thoroughly the effects of sound and how it is presented and directed, but not the actual sound as it is reproduced.
GOOD SYSTEM FOR THE PRICE. RECEIVED THE SYSTEM AND ONLY CHECKED IT TO SEE IF IT WORKED OK.
THE UNIT IS ENOUGH FOR THE ROOM AND THE SOUND IS GOOD, CONSIDERING THE PRICE
Good product I was concerned that this product would be too complicated for me to install, but really didn't have any problems. It took several hours, but the instructions are good. I'm a little disappointed by the sound from the small surround sound speakers, but this may be my TV's problem, since I didn't use the cables recommended in the instructions for the highest quality sound.
The sound quality from the other speakers is good, and I would recommend this product.

Customer Reviews Impressed with the sound and features and great price! I'm actually set on getting the Onkyo S6100 to go with my 52" Samsung and PS3. While still saving for it, i tried at one time the Sony CT-100 which did not satisfy me since i ended up wanting the surround effects (no fault to the CT100). While browsing and reading some very good reviews with this system which also has the HDMI inputs i needed to go with my PS3, i decided to give this a try. The box was small than i expected and while unpacking the speakers i started to feel a bit skeptical if it will sound good. Set-up was easy and only took me maybe a couple hours including running the wires.(my first time to run wires and the color coded connections really helped a lot). Connected the PS3 to the receiver and then to my TV through HDMIs, fired it up, auto calibrate (which was really easy) put in the '300' Bluray and went directly to the fight scenes. All i can say is WOW! (like the other reviewers here) I can hear the small cracks, rattles, arrows swishing and it felt like my ear was twitching with the great sounds i'm hearing. I can really hear sound moving around and through the room and really was very immersed in the movie. Watched a few more movies (Hulk, Crank) and played games and this system is really sounding really good. This is basically my first 5.1 system but hearing other systems (separates) from friends, i could say that with this system i could easily match those and maybe even sound better. The base and sound are very good. I don't even have problems hearing the dialogues coming from the smallish center speaker. I only have 20x15 living room and this 5.1 system really fills the room very well and i'm starting to wonder if the 7.1 Onkyo might be an overkill now. I'm impressed that all of the great sound i hear are done without the volume really high and i'm only around 18-22 volume level. I may just as well save a couple of hundred of dollars with this system which is really good enough for my needs.
Update:
Apparently, i wasn't too content so i returned it and got an Onkyo S6100 7.1 system, after hooking all things up that's when i realized this Sony was a great buy. It matched or out performed the Onkyo with less the hassle. I was expecting the Onkyo to blow this thing out of the water but i was struggling to adjust, recalibrate the Onkyo to at least sound as good as the Sony. Yes the Onkyo had fuller sound but this Sony has that clear and crisp sound not to mention better sounding dialogues from that center speaker. I have to crank the Onkyo to about 40 to 50 sound level before i can hear that surround sounds. With this Sony HTIB i barely even stay on 25 volume. The Onkyo i believe would be good buy long term but for the price difference i would go back with the SS2300.
Sony HT-SS2300 Blu-ray Disc(tm) Matching Component Home Theater System This Product is great!!! I have Other Sony HDMI components and this receiver lets me control all of them with 1 remote through my tv!! i love it
Crisp, clear sound resonating through my apartment I had no idea sound could be this good. I purchased this unit as an upgrade to a Dolby Prologic unit made by Pioneer (which still sounds great after more than a decade of dedicated use). I've connected this unit to a BDP-S350 blue ray player and a KDL-40W4100 HDTV. All I can say is wow. The 5.1 channel audio comes out great and really immerses the viewer into the movie scene. I'm sure that I'll be hated by the other apartment units adjacent to my own. There are so many options available for audio playback. The only drawback I see is the speaker wire, which oddly enough,is also a benefit somewhat. The speaker wires, of course, are of fixed length. The problem is that Sony has made wire connection to the receiver a specific design. Now this design makes it easier and more managable to install the speaker units into the receiver (the benefit). However, this also requires the owner to purchase additional wire (or new wire)if needed from Sony (smart, and greedy). Other than that, I'm very happy.

Features:
- Advanced YST - Advanced Yamaha Active Servo Technology (Advanced YST) is a unique system in which the speaker and amplifier work together to cancel out impedance so the speaker unit has a perfectly linear motion. Advanced YST helps to ensure the highest levels of sound pressure and overall performance.
- DivX - DivX is the video compression codec developed by DivX Networks and based on the MPEG-4 compression format. Its balance of high video quality and low bit rate has made it very popular and quickly established it as the best home video format thus far. The ability to play it on newer DVD models continues to add to its popularity as DivX Networks advances its support to many new household products. This compression technology has the potential for expanding the ways we view video media in much the way MP3 has given us many new ways to listen to music.

Product Description:2/8/200615-19-32... Amazon.com Product Description: It's time for surround sound made easy: say goodbye to drilling holes through floors and taping down cables to hide the messy mechanics of getting sound from the front of the room (your home theater's source components) to the back of the room (your surround speakers). Say hello to wireless simplicity. Incorporating the latest in wireless technology, the DAV-FR10W employs Sony's DIAT (Digital Infrared Audio Transmission System), which transfers digital audio signals--without compression or sonic compromise--from the system's source component to its surround speakers, wherever you place them. You're no longer tethered by cables as you consider your speaker placement options. The compact system features a slot-loading 5-disc DVD-Video/SACD changer with built-in surround-receiver abilities and color-coded speaker terminals, 4 floorstanding speakers (left/right front and surround), a slim center-channel speaker, and a stand-alone subwoofer designed to work in concert with the rest of the components to deliver exhilarating, full-bodied surround sound from DVD, CD, MP3 CD, and Super Audio CD (SACD) music sources. The system's 800 watts (total) are routed through its 7-channel S-Master full-digital amplifier/tuner and enhanced by the Digital Direct twin-drive subwoofer and its dual 6.25-inch woofers. (The amp pumps 114 watts x 5 for front, center, and surround speakers, with 115 watts x 2 for the passive subwoofer). Sony's exclusive S-Master digital amplifier delivers high power and low heat while occupying minimal space--merely 25 percent of the space required by a conventional amplifier. Surround decoding and processing includes Dolby Digital 5.1, Dolby Digital EX (6.1), DTS-ES, and Dolby Pro Logic II (which generates discrete 5.1-channel surround sound from any stereo/2-channel source). Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DAV-FR10W is equipped to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Choose from progressive-scan component-video outputs, composite-video, or S-video outputs. (Older TVs may require an RF modulator or video switcher to convert composite- or S-video to a threaded RF coaxial jack.) Depending on the disc, SACD music releases provide super high-fidelity multichannel and/or stereo sound, using a high-resolution 1-bit converter to exceed the quality potential found in the standard 16-bit compact disc. The system also offers JPEG image CD slideshows so you can get the most from your favorite digital media right in the comfort of your living room. Enjoy the DAV-FR10W from the repose of your easy chair with the supplied easy-to-operate Remote Commander remote control. Auxiliary connections include secondary composite- and S-video sources for a camcorder, gaming console, or VCR, and a headphone jack for private listening. The DAV-FR10W system's design is sure to be a visual centerpiece. Glazed with a metallic frost, the system will illuminate any room with its slim, elegant speakers and attractive, brushed-aluminum chassis. Using small, unobtrusive transmitters/receptors, the wireless DIAT technology transmits multichannel digital-audio signals through a local area using infrared light as the carrier. It eliminates the need for wires to connect the rear speakers as the signals are beamed directly from front to rear. The DIAT system is not vulnerable to interference by other wireless information or data like that from microwaves and cordless phones. What's in the Box DVD player/integrated surround amplifier, 4 floorstanding satellite speakers, a center speaker, a passive subwoofer, a remote control (RM-SP350), remote batteries, a user's manual, all requisite cabling.

Customer Reviews Help with this please! ( before purchase ) How does this hardware plug into your TV? HDMI?
Excellent High Tech Stereo AND Home Theater Had this system for around six months now and use it a lot for a CD/TV/radio Dolby stereo surround sound, and of course DVD movies, all of which play with exceptional clarity, range, sound, and bass which shakes the place - you can feel it in your gut. The system is great looking. All components are stylish, sleek, enhances your decor, and the speakers compliment your TV and room. These speakers are the best looking on the market to match your contemporary decor - even better than the later models - and no need to hang on walls, drill holes, buy stands, or attempt to hide wires!
The reviewer stating the disc does not start where you left off is wrong, unless you turn the system off, and all the reviews complaining about the low number of inputs/outputs is not a big deal. If you know how to piggyback inputs/outputs you'll be fine.
You'll be amazed how convenient wireless technology makes your life. The rear speakers can be thirty feet away and it's awesome you never have to worry about leading wires to the back of the room, securing them down, drilling holes, hassles with hiding wires, etc. Sony RF technology is priceless! The Pros outweigh the Cons but here's a summary:
Pros: sound - all surround, power, performace, powerful booming bass, wireless technology, numerous settings and effects, high tech, stylish, sleek, five disk changer.
Cons: a HUGE CON is no bass and treble controls!!! Why/How could a company like SoNy not include that??? Someone please tell me! The slow switching, loading, and recognition of CD/DVDs (almost a minute) can be aggravating at times.
While watching movies the rear speakers do an outstanding and subtle job in delivering the movie. If you live in an apartment or condo like me, you might not be afforded the full benefits of the system; reason being - it can even shake the neigbours' place so you must turn it down!
There's a learning curve to understand and set all the configuration and functionality to make it precise for your space. Highly recommend carefully reading the manual and learning the settings. As mentioned, the only drawbacks are 1) no bass/treble controls - although you CAN raise and lower the level of each speaker separately and easily, and 2) the slow CD/DVD switching time.
Highly rated and got a good price at the time so decided to buy it and so far happy. The sound - all surround, clarity, performace, power, booming bass, numerous settings, style, and sleekness, makes this a great home theater AND stereo system.
But, still have a bit of Bose envy... Then again Bose comes priced much higher, does not have wireless, and usually only a one disc changer whereas Sony has five. If you buy this system it will always be worth 00 coz it's discontinued and the newer models are 0 more and don't look as good. A comparable Bose that's not wireless is around 00.
Bottom line - one of the best sounding AND looking WIRELESS systems on the market.
What you expect from Sony! I have had this system for 2 weeks. There are pros and cons and much to my surpize Sony has already corrected what this system lacks. The sound is excellent! The best sound I have heard from any surround sound system. You can hear every sound on the disc....its better then my BOSE and cost less. The cons...it lacks the picture quality that other sony DVD players have. The pixel rate is 480 not 1080i..even with the progressive scan on it losses some of the quality of the picture. You can only load one disc at a time and last most dvd players will start the disc where you last cut it off, not this one. You have to reset the disc features for sound. All in all I am pleased that I finally went with the DREAM!
lacking inputs As the other review states, there are precious few (2 analog, 1 digital and 0, yes, 0 video) inputs for ths unit - my 0 Koss C220 can handle more.
Sound is good, as you might expect from Sony. The styling is strangely reminiscent of Star Trek back in the days of Captain Kirk - right above the power button is a backlit "SONY" something about the player just yells '70s. Disc selection buttons are on the top lip of the unit which means you can't stack anything up there.
What else...takes an age to load - eject, actually worried that I will damage discs by pushing them into the load slot. The speakers are something like 4 foot tall- figure that into your plans.
The whole IR wireless speaker deal is ok, so long as you don't have people walking through the path of the beam. That said, i was able to pop them out on the deck and listen to cd's.
OH! and the remote is pretty bad. I have a Sony Wega TV, and i was hoping to be able to program the remote to operate both units...but the TV remote will not communicate with the DAV-FR10W and the remote for that will not communicate with the TV properly either.
Great sound, poor connectivity No unsightly/unsafe wire running across your room from the system at the front to the surround speakers at the back! And the sound is very good, including the surround speakers - at least for a small room. DVD video quality seems good (progressive output not tested). And, it looks very sharp with thin profile and brushed finish.
Cons: very limited AV inputs/outputs. Only one digital audio input. No video inputs, so you must use your TV or another switcher for this. System height is small, which is nice, but DVD changer takes a long time to switch discs. System depth is greater than most AV components, so it may not fit well in your rack/entertainment center. Sound format is displayed for a source (e.g., "Dolby Digital") but not details about channel content (i.e., whether it's DD5.1 or DD2.0).
